Merrica River

Rembemer how I promised pics of where I went camping? Well here they are!
I don’t have any of the meals or fish I caught…as I left my memopry card at home grrrrr (to myself)
But I think you can still see what a magical location it is. We camped at Merrica River which is in the Nadgee Wilderness Area. Being a Wilderness area means that only 30 people are allowed to camp overnight at any time, and you can only camp in groups of 8. I think that is a great thing. It is either a kayak paddle in or a 4 km walk (there are a few hills) to get to the camp site. But once you walk around that last corner everyone says “wow”, because it is so beautiful. It would have been abit nicer if we hadn’t of been under constant threat of being made anaemic by mosquitos, but we just had to go to bed real early instead.

We had great fishing and caught luderick, bream, snapper, mullet and trevally (obviously we had licenses and released any that were small). We did alot of snorkling and even saw a shark, I think it was a port jackson. There are alot of rays as well which were very cute.

This picture shows our campsite, our tents were very small as we had to back pack them in. The fly was very necessary as it was very, very hot. The bank you can see on the RHS is in danger by crazy boat people who were speeding, the backwash they make is causing erosion. I think they should ban boats in there.

This shows the river at low tide, the sandbank in the middle is home to millions of soldier crabs which are very cute.

I hope that this small glimpse of a hard to access location is inspiring to you, the only better thing to do would be to come see it for yourself! Don’t forget that permits are required.
