Final Kiri is home post…
I thought that perhaps I should make an update on Kiri? You would like to know how he is getting on right?
Well, if you do here is the news
He has been incredibly happy and smoochy. He hasn’t even tried to get outside…LOL.
He has been eating 5 meals a day, needless to say he is incredibly hungy but his weight is coming back and is almost back to normal. At first when he came home he pretty much slept all day, except for 2 min runs, a meal and a toilet stop. But his energy is coming back everyday as is his feeling of wellbeing. He is much happier within hisself now than when he first came home.
He has had a few baby ticks which I have gotten off but no paralysis ticks luckily. The lump on his tail kept growing untill today and since the vets were finaly back we took him in for a complete check up. Luckily his abcess is ok and as long as he continues to imporve he wont need it to be drained, but he is on 5 days of antibiotics. We did find out a scary piece of information which I was reasonably sure of anyway… but he in ketosis when he came home. This is the same state that the Atkins diet wants you to be in to kick start your weightloss. Whilst this is kinda ok in humans it is NOT ok in cats. It normally starts after 3 to 4 days of not eating and can cause huge problems in cats especially if you cat is overweight. Luckily Kiri was very much not overweight. I am so glad he came back when he did! The vet said we did everything right *yay!* but I would have liked to have had him checked out sooner. If possible I would like for you cat lovers to learn something.. you may know this already but if you don’t…. Please if your cat stops eating it is really not ok. It is not ok if they become lethargic or depressed either. Cats are very stoic and can go downhill very quickly. So please seek medical assistance ASAP!
*note* we had a non practising vet friend give advice on Kiri as we couldn’t get in to the vet.
