I had Goat!

After the Indonesian fiasco yesterday, we did not feel like having Indonesian tonight. We wanted something warm, hearty, cheap and healthful. We decided that a Pho from a little place in Marrickville was definitely the go. We decided that we should try somewhere new after all once you fall off a horse you have to get back on.
We saw Nhat Tan, whilst the interior of the restaurant was nothing to write home about, I kinda like that dodgy interior look anyway, I figure it’s part of the charm. The free tea was a little cool but, but hey it’s free. I We looked at the menu $6.00 for a Pho Bo , not bad. Then Casey saw his favourite, Duck noodle soup with shitake mushrooms $8 , I tried to convince him to get the 5 spice goat with noodle soup $8.70 instead, he would have none of it. So it was up to me to be the taste tester. Gee, I am so glad that I did. It was fantastic, I am going back to get a photo I promise.
The Goat was not strongly goat like as I feared it might be (hey I had never had Goat before), there was a subtle 5 spice flavour, enough to enhance but not over power, it was tender and fell off the bone without being over cooked. The noodles where fresh rice noodles, not dried and weren’t to soggy. The broth, was so sweet and tasty…mmmmm.
The duck was good, Casey is very, very, bad at picking meat off the bone, yet he loves duck…. He was very happy with how the duck fell off the bone (it was not a roasted Chinese duck like a lot of these places) he could pull the meat off easily with the chopsticks. His broth had a hint of shitake flavour to it, but not too much. His noodles were just as good as mine.
All up $16.70 a bargain, we will be going back for sure!
If you like little dodgy Vietnamese places, and love Vietnamese soup, go here and be adventurous, You might just be glad you did.
