Well ok, this wasn’t our first time at Big Johns so we knew what the food is like, but my SO’s parents hadn’t been, I hope I’m forgiven…

We had a booking for 8:30 and the place is packed on a Thursday night. We wait and wait to have a waitress talk to us… they finally do the, “sorry there are no tables at the moment you have to wait” routine, wait longer and the waitress comes back and says have a seat at the bar. There is a table behind us which has just emptied… we sit at the bar for 1/2 an hour then finally we are seated at the table which emptied when we went to sit at the bar! Damm, I hate that, don’t you? If you want to eat here repeat this mantra: BOOK BOOK, BOOK! Even then be prepared to wait!

We started off with a Caesar salad. $9.50 Oh it was soo nice, Big enough for 5 people, comes really quickly and tastes great. Crispy lettuce, crispy bacon, creamy sauce, lotsa Parmesan, anchovies in the middle this would be good if you hate them as it would be easy to remove them. But we love them, couldn’t they have spread them out all over so we didn’t have to fight?

Pizza: Seafood Special. large $19. OH BABY! prawns (real), char grilled octopus, tuna, capsicum and lotsa garlic, great … was sooo yummy! We all loved it.

BBQ Seafood platter $28: Salad, Prawns(2 huge), Balmain bug, octopus, mussels, calamari and sword fish. One point here guys… Get the salad off the plate with the hot fish! Sword fish was over cooked, Prawns mmmm, octopus mmm, calamari mmm, mussels eh ok (and I looovee mussels). Overall this was a disappointment We wished we’d had the marinara seafood ($20) or another pizza.

Overall this place is great. The food is simple, huge meals and good value. But don’t go if you don’t like to share, aren’t really hungry or don’t like to be rushed squashed and have to wait at the same time. If you like huge serves of pizza, pasta, seafood and salad to share, then what are you waiting for?

All up $85 AUD for 4 people, with 2 Corona’s and a bottle of house lambrusco.
